A Taste of Tanzania

As many of you know, this past fall, Kevin and Cathie Bolstad, along with the former pastor of Holy Family – Connie Landstrom, were able to spend a month in Tanzania with two of the congregations there that we are in partnership with.  Kevin and Cathie will be sharing pictures, stories and reflections on their time in Tanzania on Saturday, Feb. 25, from 3-5pm in the auditorium at NUP.  Any and all who are interested are more than welcome to attend.  Refreshments will be provided.

Godparenting Sunday

Baptism is a wicked awesome thing to behold!  As Lutherans, we recognize that God does all the work in baptism as God claims us and brings us into a new way of life. But parents, godparents and the whole community of faith also offer certain promises to support the newly baptized in their journey of faith.

We at Holy Family, want to recognize and support the lifelong relationship between godparent and godchild during our 11am service on Sunday, February 26th. You are all welcome to attend, and if your godparent/godchild lives here in Yellowknife, invite them to sit with you in church that day.  Bring pictures of their baptisms that we can look at together.  If they are not able to be there, no worries – we will still celebrate and give thanks to God for their presence in your lives!

Shrove Tuesday aka Fat Tuesday

You are invited to join us on February 21st @ 5:30pm for pancakes in the Auditorium at Northern United Place. Come, eat and be merry!  I can’t promise that you will have as much fun as these kids, but who knows?!    Certainly our dress code will be more casual!

Lent is on its way so we need to get all of that frivolity out of our systems before we are led into a time of serious fasting, reflection and prayer.

Thanks to the Yellowknife United Church for hosting this!

Ash Wednesday Service

Join us on February 22nd at 6:30pm in the chapel as we enter into the season of Lent by remembering our dirty little secret – “we are from dust, and to dust we shall return.”

AGM? That sounds delightful!

We will hold our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 12 immediately after the service…actually we will eat first (potluck of course) and then meet to give thanks for the ways that God has been active in our ministry over the past year, and say “yes” to the ways that we hear God directing us in the year to come.  Please plan on attending this important event!
